What We Do


A scheme to support businesses to recruit young people, aged 16-24, into employment with financial support in Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds, Wakefield or York.

Objectives of Fund

The scheme supports businesses recruit young people, aged 16-24, into employment with financial support.

Value Notes

Grants of up to £2,000 are available for businesses with 50 or fewer employees to recruit an apprentice.

An additional top up grant of £500 is on offer if the Apprenticeship is at a Higher or Degree Level as defined by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).

Who Can Apply

Applicant businesses must be based in Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds, Wakefield or York. Applicants must employ fewer than 50 employees – whereas the national grant is currently for businesses with less than 50 staff.

Apprentices must be:
•New recruits or an individual moving into a new Apprenticeship role within the organisation.
•Aged 16 to 24 on the start date of their Apprenticeship, as recorded by the training provider for the Skills Funding Agency.
•Enrolled on an Apprenticeship framework or standard through an approved training provider recognised by the Skills funding Agency (ask the training provider to confirm).
•On an Apprenticeship programme in the business for at least 13 weeks.
•Living in England.
•Free to be an apprentice, not taking part in full-time education elsewhere.


Applicants are not eligible for the LEP Apprenticeship Grant for Employers if:
•they are claiming support for apprentice(s) through the LEP skills service, because they are already being funded; or
•they are offering Trailblazer Apprenticeships.

How To Apply

The scheme is now open.

Businesses express interest via training providers. If they are linked to a training provider who is supporting the applicant with Apprenticeships, the provider should complete the Registration Form on the LEP website on their behalf (http://www.the-lep.com/age). This will be trigger eligibility checks.

If the business is eligible, they will be contacted by a member of staff from the LEP by email with a request for them to complete a full Grant Application Form.
