What We Do

The Business Advocates are private sector providers who have pledged their time and expertise to help stimulate economic growth across Kirklees. The role of the advocates is completely voluntary and they are not paid to perform their role.

David Broadhead - Partners in Management

David Broadhead Business Hub Advocate David is the founder of Partners in Management, a Huddersfield based Chartered Management Institute Approved Centre for graduate and masters level leadership and management development.

His experience has included military product development, international manufacturing project management, general management, closures and relocations as operations director, manufacturing systems consultancy and then as a business school post-graduate academic, prior to setting up his own business.

David is also an Ambassador for the CMI, organising and presenting at regional knowledge update events, a Kirklees Business Advocate and also an FSB active committee member.

He writes regularly on the principles of Intrapreneurship and his nationally recognised ‘21st Century Leaders’ programme, currently supported by 50% LEP funding, is now being developed into a masters level apprenticeship.

Debbie Crellin - Crellin Consulting

Debbie Crellin Business Hub Advocate Debbie has 20 years’ experience in the public, private and third sector. Her background is in appraising grant applications and in commissioning services for regional government agencies. Debbie now uses this experience to help charities and local companies apply for grants, bid for tenders and seek investment.

Debbie has experience in successfully raising grant investment up to £10.5 million in a single investment and has successfully bid for tenders of around £1.5 million. Crellin Consulting has raised approximately £3 million in grants and tenders for local companies and charities in the last 12 months.

Helen Tones - The Implementer

Helen Tones Business Hub Advocate Helen works with small and medium size businesses; she helps business owners focus on what they really need to do and helps to make it happen.

Helen has experience in B2B growth and sales, Customer Relationship Management, Project Management, Bid Management and Sales Operations Management.

Helen joined as an Advocate to help share her business knowledge and experience to help businesses grow within Kirklees.

Janet Bebb - Social Progress

Janet Bebb Business Hub AdvocateJanet is a highly regarded social media marketing consultant and trainer with over 10 years’ experience in business and enterprise.

Janet was Recently nominated in April 2016 for a National UK Blog Award in the category of Social Media, Marketing, PR & Comms.

Janet is registered to deliver training through the Leeds LEP Skills Service; and works with pre-start & start-up businesses through the North & West Chamber of Commerce Start & Grow programme. Janet has also been recognised as one of Enterprise Nation’s top 50 UK Growth Voucher Advisers.

Jonathan Hill - Pierrepont

Jonathan Hill Business Hub Advocate Jonathan is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and has a wealth of experience having worked both in industry and practice, so has a full understanding and experience of the issues that confront businesses.

Jonathan's approach is friendly and professional providing support to businesses with regard to the basics of accounts, payroll & pensions and tax. Value is delivered to businesses whether a start-up or an established business looking to grow.

Helping business owners make sense of the all-important numbers, Jonathan speaks a language that is understandable and advice and guidance provided is both meaningful and relevant.

Having a passion for business, Jonathan's wish would be for a vibrant and strong Kirklees economy, being the business destination of choice where all businesses prosper. To this end, Jonathan runs Business Wednesday's from his practice providing free workshops and seminars, primarily for start-ups, enabling solid foundations to be built.

Stewart Leahy - Yorkshire Powerhouse

His various roles include being a sole trading website designer, merging and forming The Design Mechanics and employing a small team of developers and designers in their Marsden office, and latterly as the principle of the Yorkshire Powerhouse.

The Yorkshire Powerhouse provides an online library of guidance, advice and template business planning resources – all aimed at small and medium sized businesses in the Yorkshire region and, indeed, some of our own hub support content was kindly provided by Yorkshire Powerhouse.

Stewart, and the Yorkshire Powerhouse, provide straight-talking, blunt, simple advice from a platform of ‘real world’ experience.

Veronica Baldwin - Baldwin Coaching

Veronica Baldwin Business Hub AdvocateWorking as a Business Coach, Veronica supports organisations to engage their employees, transform their culture and develop their leaders and their teams.

With many years experience in manufacturing, Veronica draws on first-hand experience of managing change, improving processes and ultimately developing a more motivated and profitable organisation.
Veronica has a strong belief that results are driven by actions and behaviors and these in turn are driven by capabilities and beliefs and this is strongly reflected in her coaching style.
Using a number of coaching models and also NLP (neuro linguistic programming) techniques, people who experience Veronica's coaching find they not only achieve the outcome they wanted, they also open up their thinking and learn how to effectively self-coach.
